Cheapest day out

A shared coach day trip is the lowest price: from ¥13,000 booked directly with LIMON Tours, which holds a first-class licence, or about $50 online, for a long day at the Lake Kawaguchi viewpoints. The shared coaches are the first group above.

Most time at the mountain

Stay at Kawaguchiko and book a local operator: Kyantora from ¥27,500 per car for up to seven, Native Fuji from ¥35,000 for up to six, or Johnny's from ¥50,000. You skip the four hours on the expressway a Tokyo day trip spends.

The summit

Guided climbs run from July to early September. Mt. Fuji Guides caps groups at one guide per six; Fuji Mountain Guides has led English-speaking climbers since 2007; Yamatrip is cheapest at ¥27,980, but carries 25 to 45 climbers per bus.

Families and small groups

A private car with a driver-guide costs more in total but less per head at four or five: Jano Japan is ¥65,000 per car for up to five from a central Tokyo hotel, and the day runs at your pace with your own stops.

Tours in Spanish

FUJICOOLTOUR (¥11,000) and Excursiones Fujiyama (¥13,000) leave Mishima Station, on the Shinkansen line from Tokyo; JPTravelers runs Spanish-guided groups from Shinjuku from ¥18,500.

Fuji and Hakone together

Hakone adds Lake Ashi and the ropeway over Owakudani. Sunrise Tours (JTB) runs the classic version with a Shinkansen return, from ¥23,500 direct; the Fuji and Hakone coaches online are the second group above.

One rule applies to every climber: each pays a ¥4,000 trail fee (2026 season) to the two prefectures, through the official site fujisan-climb.jp, whatever operator they book; check whether your tour price includes it. And no tour can promise a clear summit: the mountain makes its own weather.

How do I check that a tour operator in Japan is licensed?

Look for a travel-agency registration number in the footer, company profile or travel terms of the operator's own website: "Japan Tourism Agency Commissioner Registered Travel Agency No. …" for a first-class licence, or a prefectural one such as "Tokyo Metropolitan Governor Registered Travel Agency No. 2-…". A missing number is not proof of anything wrong, but it cannot be checked.

How much does a Mount Fuji tour cost?

A shared coach day trip from Tokyo costs about $50 per person online, or from ¥13,000 booked directly with LIMON Tours. A private car from a Tokyo hotel starts at ¥65,000 per car for up to five, and local private tours at the lakes from ¥27,500 per group. Guided summit climbs run ¥27,980 to ¥73,900 per person, plus the ¥4,000 trail fee.

Is a Mount Fuji tour the same as climbing Mount Fuji?

No. Most Mount Fuji tours are sightseeing day trips to the lakes, viewpoints and sometimes the 5th Station, with no hiking. Climbing to the summit is a separate two-day product that runs only in the summer season, from July to early September.
